Truth &…

So…not exactly a mountain biking topic, but it is heavily in the current news so many folks have asked me about my take on the residential school, truth & reconciliation thing recently. I’m not prone to talk about politics, religion, my feelings, or the state of the marvel universe…especially online. Well, not without a fair amount of Jameson or IPA anyways. Besides, without forgetting about the past, I prefer to look positively to the future as much as possible. I will say this much, only. I am truly blessed to have family both here, and in my home province of Saskatchewan (I was born and raised in Saskatchewan, moved to Ontario in the year 2000. BTW, the residential school system ended in Saskatchewan in 1974; I was born in 1963), and so many great friends that make me feel that I belong, and that I am where I am supposed to be. (Although the mountains of British Columbia can be a powerful temptress…). Some pics that help explain what I mean…(yes, I do serious pics, sometimes)…

So….speaking of friends. Have you noticed the epic adventure this guy, JeffS is doing. JeffS is the master of epic doings…usually on a fatbike, and this is just another epic adventure; with an honourable twist. Jeff, over the past few years has done several fundraising challenges in support of Save the Children. This year, he is working with Save the Children to support the National Reconciliation Program for Indigenous Children in Canada. So, he is taking on several epic hikes in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Check it out here, and feel free to donate to the cause if you so choose…

Pics from Jeffs adventure so far…

Sooo…change of gears (or switch the single speed?). There was a local XC Mountain Bike race this weekend. Substance Projects held the 1st race of it’s XC Marathon 3 race series, The Humbler held at Northumberland Community Forest. The course looked fast and flowy from the pics (some of which are below). Otherwise I haven’t heard much more about the race….yet. The next race of the series is The Kingston Trophy. You can check out the series at http://www.substanceprojects.com

As for me, a broken leg immediately followed by 2 successive seasons of treeplanting has left me woefully out of racing shape…I am barely in riding in a group shape…but I am working on it. (anyone want the extra 25 lbs I am carrying??) Also, the treeplanting stints have left me with significant lower back issues. I have finally been able to get into physiotherapy, so hopefully soon get that sorted out. OK…enough whining…

After this weekends rain deluge…I’ll be looking to ride on some sand based trails this week. Maybe Turkey Point…maybe Mansfield. Where else is there?? I will follow up…

Stay epic. Stay posted…
